Shalom to all! As we now know we have 6 more weeks of
winter, we must appreciate the fact that our area has been spared the ravages of
true winter so far! We have had wonderful results with our new program—Young
Family Service once a month in which we have our pot luck dinners as a group and
families can meet others in our community over dinner. It’s wonderful to see the
children enthused about singing and having fun as they attend services.
We have a special event this month—the Bar Mitzvah of Will S. I look forward to
seeing the congregation attend the service and participate as needed in order to
make this a memorable occasion for Will's family!
Torah—an important part of Jewish life. As we raise our children to become a
Bar/Bat Mitzvah we teach them that the Torah is an instruction manual for life.
By studying the 10 commandments we learn how important it is to communicate
properly with others. The Torah forbids “loshan hora” (evil gossip) because it
wants us to see the good in each other, but more importantly it wants us to
avoid damaging someone’s reputation. As we attend services, we need to practice
what we read and have it become part of our daily living.
As we prepare for the rest of the year, I am excited to tell you that March will
bring a BIS Teen Event—a night of Israeli Rock n’ Roll! So stay tuned for this
event—more details to follow! Rabbi Ellie always has great spirit and ideas for
us all!
In April we will be conducting our Annual Community Seder on April 7th at
Lenny’s Restaurant, so all is in the works for another fun celebration.
As we wind down for the year, I welcome any other ideas, suggestions, or
thoughts that you may have.
Sincerely,
Linda W.
President
