As you may be aware, we've had some outstanding contributions in the past year, all worth gratefully noting. The closing of Beth's Reruns after 10 successful years and the completion of the parking lot expansion, however, represent, in one case, the truly sustained commitment that so many have made to the Beth Israel root of Judaism in Southern Maryland, and in the other case what our newest members are beginning to accomplish. Both also could not have been accomplished without the coordinated help of quite a few individuals as you can see in the respective articles in this issue.

As your newest president, I am conscious of both these elements of our congregation and each of our ongoing contributions. When I think of the hard work and dedication of the past presidents, other board members, Sunday school teachers and the degree to which many have served in a number of these positions - all that makes me want simply not to goof things up. On the other hand, seeing how our membership has grown this year and seeing already the industry from our bumper crop of b'nai mitzvah students, I'm humbled in a whole new light! 

Both our expanded parking lot and our 10 years of income and participation in our neighborhood commerce demonstrate the worth and magnitude of what we can do together. I've heard from several folks (THANKS) with an interest in helping out and I hope you will hang in there with us and find ways you would prefer to help. Remember not to be afraid to be selective for things you particularly enjoy and things that fit your schedule. Also don't be afraid that you don't know enough - I am living proof that there's no such thing in this congregation!
